Self-Assess/Self Select
  Students decided, based on their proficiency check, whether they wanted to:
     a.) work with a partner or help another student
     b.) work on advanced problems
     c.) work alone
Steps were made toward proficiency and students then checked their work on the proficiency check from yesterday, fixed errors (if necessary) and tried advanced problems (if applicable).
Homework #4 is due today.

Honors Core 3--- "Week" of January 30-February 1

Monday, 1/30
1. Warm-Up - solve the following ratios using any method...
       a.   (x + 5) / 9  =  7/12
       b.   x/6 = 13.5/x
2.  Looking at Similar Triangles - Review (see PPT - slide #1)
     Solve for x and y.
3.  What's proficient for Integrated Alg/Geo/Trig 3? (11th grade honors mathematics)?  (see PPT - slides 2-4)
4.  Explore/Investigate - working with your group, complete the front of the WS.
Homework - finish the WS started in class.

Go over questions on WS from yesterday
Proficiency Check - similar figures

Wednesday, 2/1
ACT Prep #2
- 12 minutes = 12 problems (all problems were over the Geometry and Measurement standards
- discuss with your group - 15 minutes
- choose 2-3 problems that you need to discuss
- Q&A - as many as we can do....

NOTES - three similarity theorems - try this website for a quick taste of what we did... OR google "similar triangle theorems" and see what you find.
HW#8 - page 304 - OYO - be sure to DRAW the figures and mark them with the info you know.  Then make sure you read and answer the question :-)

   2. FOIL (Ellen's Method) - MathTV has good videos for this.  Here's what you'll need to do...
        - go to MathTV.com
.       - On the left side is a long list of topics.  Click on "Polynomials"
        - Under that will appear another list - choose "Multiply with Polynomials"
        - Choose any of the following problems:
            Problem #3 - Molly (or Gordon for Spanish)
            Problem #2 - CJ

Office Hours Update

I told most of my students, but in case you missed it, my after-school hours will be changing starting next week due to a class I am now taking on Tuesday afternoons.  My new after-school hours will be...
Monday: 'til 4:30pm
Thursday: 'til 4:30pm
(Wednesday and Friday - by appointment only)


Math Cafe runs on Tuesday (with Ms. Allen) and Wednesday (with Mr. Ruff).


A big thank you to my 6th period Honors Core 3 class - we had 9 visitors (teachers from other schools) today and although it was a little unusual having so many adults in the room, you communicated your thinking at impressive levels!  On a Friday even... way to go!
